Ingredients
- ½ lb (250 g) raw pork or chicken, ground
- ½ lb (250 g) raw pork or chicken, ground
- 1 beaten egg
- ¼ cup (60 ml) finely chopped water chestnuts (optional)
- 2 finely chopped green onions
- 2 teaspoons (10 ml) soy sauce
- 1 teaspoon (5 ml) roasted sesame oil
- ¼ teaspoon (1.25 ml) salt
- ¼ teaspoon (1.25 ml) sugar
- ¼ teaspoon (1.25 ml) white pepper
Preparation
Place all ingredients in a large bowl and mix well. Let rest in the refrigerator for 30 minutes.
Assemble the wontons by placing ½ teaspoon (2.5 ml) of filling in the center of each wrapper. Fold the wrapper over to enclose the filling and moisten the edges with egg white or water before sealing. Press together.
Bring 2 L of water to a boil in a saucepan. Add the wontons one at a time, stirring gently to prevent them from sticking together. Cook over medium-high heat for about 4 minutes until the wontons float to the surface, or until the filling is cooked through and reaches a temperature of 74°C (165°F).
Caution
Frying can be very dangerous. Always stay in the room where the frying pan is located and turn off the heat as soon as the wontons are cooked. Make sure that hot oil is kept out of reach of young children.
